Joint venture of India and Russia to manufacture silicon ingots to slice into thin wafers to make photo-voltaic cells for its ambitious solar mission

India is planning to set a joint venture company in Russia to source the key component required for its fledgling solar energy initiatives. According to content of news of related resource i.e ‘MSN News’(Link cited below) India and Russia are exploring avenues to set up a joint venture company, at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore to manufacture silicon ingots which could be brought in India and sliced into thin wafers to make photo-voltaic cells for India’s ambitious solar energy mission. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) of Russia is handling with an impressive list of projects that also includes a few solar energy initiatives. DST is also setting up high-tech complexes to manufacture polycrystalline silicon and monosilane. It is hope of India to source 2000 tonnes of silicon ingots from this venture.

Development of A New Generation of Solar Panels - Using 3D design software SolidWorks

The 3D design software SolidWorks is chosen as a key development and analysis tool by U.S based Solar Infra Inc.  for the development of solar panels that would extend the reach of clean, renewable energy. As per related content in news article of ‘Energi Technical Marketing’(link mentioned below); use of this approach, saved about $100,000 of Solar Infra Inc, on the development of new product. It helps to save time and money during development because with help of this all development activities could be done in software, using simulation to test the concepts instead of building prototypes. The much more detailed information can be seen at the link of Cambridge wireless, mentioned below.

Initiatives of Gujarat to Harness Solar Energy

Gujarat is blessed with abundant solar radiation density i.e 5.5 to 6.00 kWh/sq.m./day with 330 sunny days / year and Gujarat have densest transmission network. The Government of Gujarat declared its “Solar Power Policy – 2009” with operative period upto 31-03-2014, with vision of positioning Gujarat state as the ‘Integrated Solar Generation Hub’ for the nation. The Solar Power Policy introduced for Transmission line of 66 kV and above by state utility, whereas, Renewable Purchase Obligation of 10 % from all renewable sources. The Tariff introduced for purchase of power through Solar Energy is;

Agencies approved to produce power by harnessing Solar Energy at Largest Solar Energy Park in India i.e Charanka Solar Park

The aim of this India’s Largest Solar Energy Park i.e Charanka Solar Park is to produce 500 MW power through Solar Energy technology. Its large area and capacity to produce 500Mw Energy differentiates it to glaze as one of its own kind Largest Solar Energy Park in the world. It will be contributing enough to achieve the targets of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission of India which targets to create an enabling policy framework for the deployment of 20,000 MW of solar power by 2022 in India. The land space acquired for development of this Largest Solar Energy Park is allotted among the agencies approved to produce power by harnessing Solar Energy for the Solar Energy Park. GMR Gujarat Solar Power Pvt Ltd (25 MW), Sun Edison Energy India Ltd (25 MW), Alex Astral Power Pvt Ltd (25 MW), Roha Energy Pvt Ltd (25 MW), Emami Cement Ltd (10 MW), Azure Power (5 MW). Kiran Energy (20 MW) are some of the allottees that will set up power plants at the park. Larsen and Tubro’s Construction Division, Mumbai Electrical and Gulf Projects Operating Company has been engaged by Kiran Energy to set the 20 Mw Solar Power Producing plant at Patan. The solar park will make power accessible to poor and will help reduce emission to a great extent. The government is committed to employ local villagers at the park and will help improve skills required for the solar power sector. The commissioning of this Charanka Solar Park at Patan will generate about 5,000 direct jobs locally for works such as assembling, electrical connection and cleaning of panels and development of green belt area around the site.

In addition to focus on Patan, development of solar power units at high potential areas of Banas Kantha and Kutchh districts are also under consideration by Gujarat government. The Gujarat government has signed power purchase agreements with 80 firms for solar power worth 932 Mw. which will come up in the due course of time. The initiatives of Gujarat government for buying 932-MW of power under its new solar power policy, is a remarkable move in the solar power sector of India. In the solar energy sector in Gujarat, a group of industrialists have launched a  Solar Energy Association  that will address some of the key issues relating to the land acquisition, share holding pattern and changes in the terms of PPAs signed with the government.

Charanka Solar Park ( Largest Solar Energy Park i.e ‘Charanka Solar Park’ of 500-MW capacity to get commissioned at Patan District in Gujarat , India )

The plan of Gujarat government to build the Charanka Solar Park to produce 500-MW of power with the use of renewable energy source, at Patan District in Gujarat is really a Milestone step of India in developing Renewable Energy Resources. It is now become a necessity to look after the Renewable energy resources as the Conventional energy resources are depleting day by day. This Charanka Solar Park will definitely prove good achievements in electric stability for Gujarat province of India. This 500 megawatts generated at Charanka is to be transmitted to the national electricity grid for which Asian Development Bank's (ADB) is preparing a $100 million loan to fund the proposed transmission line. The waste land will be utilized in beneficiary manner as; this Charanka Solar Park is to be developed in about 2,500 hectare land site out of which 1000-hectare is a waste land. This will be among the largest solar power facilities in the world. It will also be a remarkable step in control of green house gas emission and have clean climate, as to produce 500-MW of power through solar energy will decrease the CO2 emission by 8 lakh million ton and save the bio-fuels like coal and gas.
The Project is to be established by Gujarat Government and the Government will incorporate Private companies to commission their individual production units to produce 500-MW of power. 16 companies have already been allotted plots to generate 176 MW power at the part, and they will commission their respective units in next six months. The commissioning of Charanka Solar Park at Charanka village is just like a grant of a boon for the village as its commissioning will make for urbanization and development of the village. The government is to make infrastructure to provide facilities like water, electricity, roads, rain water drainage, power transmission facility to power producers. The developing initiatives of Government such as to establish projects like solar plant machinery manufacturing, research and development and others  will also open good job and study opportunities for young generation of the State.
